Reference Framework

Railway infrastructure can be used for up to fifty years. Therefore every railway organisation has a various kinds of records and data on its infrastructure. Each document and file entry needs to include information on any given asset’s location within the line and track network in a suitable format. But differing requirements have resulted in differing classification and identification systems.

The traditional “railway address” in the form of line / kilometre and track / kilometre is increasingly being supplemented with positioning coordinates and will sooner or later be replaced by such coordinates given the growing use of satellite-based navigation systems.

The Infrastructure Reference Framework (Infrastrukturordnungsrahmen) is a tool to translate the location data of any traditional “railway address” into another traditional “railway address” both in terms of line sections and tracks.

The sub-system “iCard” enables users to also translate traditional ‘railway addresses’ into approximate coordinates and use them in GIS and navigation systems.

Specifications

  • Central database
  • Administration via Intranet masks
  • Replication interfaces for systems using this solution
  • Basic elements for kilometre points and reference tracks are edited by a central administrator
  • Special line and track sections are edited by those responsible for them
  • Intelligent configuration of GIS data download by flexible use of systematised data of registered special line and track sections.
  • Highly automated editing of any data stock for GIS representation

Your Benefit

  • System meets the basic need for convertibility of a great variety of identification systems
  • Mutually independent stocks of data can be integrated with a joint Data Warehouse
  • Use of „iCard” facilitates changeover to coordinate-based localisation
